Foremost Nigerian entertainer known for Gospel/ Ethical comedy Ajibola Adebayo, popularly known as Holy Mallam, in conjunction with ‘Good Hands’, his social responsibility project, on June 9, 2011 visited the Laurel Schools in Lagos. The visit was to motivate the students towards a better future and to give gifts.
Holy Mallam’s ‘Good Hands project’ aims at inspiring student participants towards the realization of their potentials and God given talents, an act critical to instilling positive values in their personal lives, society and the world at large.
The Laurel Schools students who were ecstatic to have Holy Mallam visit their school were noticeably attentive throughout the program. The story of Holy Mallam’s life especially how he rose from been a pure water seller to a foremost entertainer in Nigeria grasped their attention completely.
One of the students speaking on the event said ‘I was highly motivated; I never thought stuffs like this could come from a comedian and the story of his life is definitely inspiring’.
The event was not without corporate support as Nigeria’s leading pharmaceutical company, Greenlife Pharmaceuticals was present to give out products specific to secondary school students for free. Saco, another Nigeria comedian was also present at the event to dish out some comical spice.
Speaking on why he took on this project, Holy Mallam said, ‘statistics has shown that only 7.6% to 9.9% of our annual expenditure as a nation is devoted to education, so if we are to be truthful to ourselves we would agree that Nigeria still has a long way to go as far as quality education is concerned. However, students enrolled in this present school system we complain about need to learn more about life and they need to be prepared for their future. These are the things that inspired the ‘Good Hands’ project and we plan to take this project to as many Nigerian secondary school as possible.
Holy Mallam who can now be labeled a motivational speaker, sometime ago gathered together a group of upcoming comedians for a seminar where he in company of other facilitators taught them the ethics of comedy, some of which include; presentation, delivery, integrity and dressing.
