Single ladies discriminated against by hotels in Nigeria
Posted on 2:48 AM by dvdsvdsdv
Someone sent me an email asking me to discuss this here. Apparently in quite a number of hotels in Nigeria, single girls are denied service. You can't just walk in, sit at the bar and order a drink. You will be turned down and probably turned out. There seems to be an internal policy that women must be accompanied by men to be served at its bar, restaurant or just sitting at the hotel lobby. In fact in some hotels, they won't let a single girl through the lobby without male companion except she's able to convince staff she's a guest of someone staying at the hotel. Half the time, it's quite embarrassing for the women.
The thing is, most of these hotels believe that single ladies come to their hotel to hustle men. Why else would you chose a hotel's bar, restaurant, or lobby to drink, eat or relax, they always say.
Some lady who was discriminated against is thinking of taking legal action against a hotel. Is she right to do this? I'm thinking why bother, really? But what's up with hotels not letting unaccompanied ladies into their premises? Do they have a point?
Please share your thoughts on this.

Be the judge at the Malta Guinness Street Dance IV
Posted on 12:50 AM by dvdsvdsdv
Six weeks of Top of the World street dance moves at the season IV of Malta Guinness Street Dance have just ended. If you remember, a total of eight (8) street dance crews were selected by the judges from the nationwide auditions held in various regions across the country. They were Fly High, Sum’ry Crew (Abuja) Supreme Task, Shadows (Enugu) Genesis Plus, Soulja Guyz (Benin) Hephzibah (Lagos), and Dynasty (Lagos). Each crew partook in series of recreational activities and choreography sessions that aided in the delivery of their dance routines.
The first week had all eight crews displaying what they had in their kitty while the second week featured the first elimination stage of the competition, tagged “blast from the past” which made Dynasty crew the first crew to be evicted. Sum’ry crew lost out in the challenge which required crews to celebrate living “Legends” in the third week. Hephizibah crew and Fly High crew also bowed out in week four and five respectively when the challenges assigned were “Dance into the Future” and “Make or Break (Kitchen Dance)”
The sixth week which was dubbed the final showdown featured two rounds of dance so as to select the two crews that will go to the Pan African championship. To clear the air around what was to be expected at the final, the judges took turns to air their opinions on what the expectations should be. First to react amongst the judges was renowned African contemporary dance instructor Frank Konwea, said “They’ve built themselves already, it’s time to get the crew that will represent Nigeria at Pan African” followed by UK based singer and dancer May7ven who said “expect to see dynamic performances and astronomical display” while the chief judge Wale Rubber stated that “am expecting the very best, they (last four crews) should bring all their creativity and technicality to the stage. Hopefully we will have the best final ever in the annals of Malta Guinness Street Dance”.
The journey to the Pan African championship began as the four finalists keenly contested for the two slots to the African championship with the first round challenge tagged “Afro-vibe”. “Afro-vibe” challenged the last four crews to infuse African contemporary songs and steps into their dance routines for the round. The first round performances saw Supreme Task evicted as the other crews proved that they’ve got what it takes to move to the next round. The second round was the “freestyle” challenge which allowed competing crews to be more innovative with their dance routines. The last three crews Soulja Guyz, Shadows and Genesis Plus did put up a good show which further demonstrated to the judges and audience that they all had what it takes to be at the Pan African Championship.
The onus was on the trio of Wale Rubber, May7ven and Frank to be convinced of the crew that will better represents Nigeria at the African championship. Announcing the winner of the two spots with an emotional laden mood (name of judge) called out on Genesis Plus and Shadows as the African Championship spot winners while Souja Guyz emerged runners up. However, this where you and I can actually play the role of judges by voting for our favourite crew and that we think so far has fully shown that they are the crew that will best represent Nigeria at the Pan African Championship.
To vote for your favourite crew Genesis Plus or Shadows, simply SMS G (Genesis Plus) or S (Shadows) to 20120 from 2nd of 15th of July SMS cost only N10.00 or visit www.facebook.com/maltaguinness for voting details.
Let’s take a moment to recall the theme for this season “Back with Style, Back with Swagger” and your guess is as good as mine if you have experienced the new style used and the swag exhibited by all because its Malta Guinness Street Dance!

'But because I do not want rumours to start flying, and I think, out of respect, all my friends and fans need to know what's happening to me, I think it's right to set the records straight once and for all on this. We're no longer together and we're both happy. We've both moved on'.
'I'm single again. But I will not be searching for now'. 'I've taken this decision very painfully; and it's particularly a tough and sensitive time for me and my son. And I plead with my friends and fans to put us in their prayers at this period'.
The musician who is working to release her new materials, while also dedicating her time to helping disadvantaged women and children, says she will 'not be granting any interviews for now. I want to give my
son all the attention he needs; and when I do have to talk, it'll be about my current love : My music'.
'I pray my friends in the media understand this. They've been very supportive since my early days. And I believe they'll stand by me at this trying period also...'

Briefing the press, the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Samuel Jinadu said the case is currently being investigated by the state CID, Panti, Yaba, Lagos, while the autopsy report on the late Titilayo was being awaited.
In the meantime, Jinadu said that Akolade will be referred to a psychiatric hospital where he will undergo a test to ascertain his state of mind.
I'm looking at him and I can't wrap my head around what he did. How could he keep stabbing and stabbing and then start cutting? He can't be sane!

Another woman files attempted rape complaint against Strauss-Kahn in France
Posted on 2:18 PM by dvdsvdsdv
A French writer filed a criminal complaint today Tuesday June 5 against embattled former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn, alleging attempted rape, according to her attorney David Koubbi.
Tristane Banon, 32, filed the new claim, just as a separate New York case against the French financier appeared to be on shaky ground.
A Strauss-Kahn lawyer in France said he had filed a counterclaim against Banon for "false declarations."
French prosecutors are expected to review the complaint and determine whether there is enough evidence to press charges.
Though the alleged attack occurred in 2003, the statute of limitations on attempted rape is 10 years.
Koubbi told CNN the alleged attack had taken place with "extreme violence."
The new legal fireworks came after questions arose about the truthfulness of a housekeeper who alleged that Strauss-Kahn, 62, attacked her in his New York hotel suite in May.
One of Strauss-Kahn's lawyers in New York, Benjamin Brafman, on Monday declined to comment on the allegations in France.
Banon's mother, Socialist politician Anne Mansouret, said shortly after the housekeeper's accusations were splashed across front pages around the world that her daughter had been attacked by Strauss-Kahn in 2003 but that she had discouraged her at the time from filing charges against him.
Mansouret, a member of parliament, said she cautioned Banon not to file a police report at the time for fear it would hurt her journalism career.
On Tuesday she said she had not realized before how much her daughter was affected by the alleged incident.
"At the time, I never thought that it had traumatized her to such a point," she told CNN affiliate network BFM.
Banon "expects to be destroyed" after filing the complaint against Strauss-Kahn, her mother said.
But she must "find the combative instinct that is needed to withstand the shock and say to herself, 'OK, I must do this and I will carry it out,'" Mansouret said.
Strauss-Kahn was never charged in connection with the alleged attack on Banon.
But in light of the charges against Strauss-Kahn after the alleged incident at a Sofitel hotel in New York, Koubbi said a few weeks ago that he and Banon had considered filing a complaint.
Koubbi said the cases were not connected.
"I don't see any reason why these two cases should be joined, because either the prosecutor has enough elements to condemn Dominique Strauss-Kahn in the United States -- and if he does, he should do it -- or he needs to bring two cases together to get a conviction," he said in June.
"In that case, we do not want to participate," he added.
Strauss-Kahn's attorney in France, Leon Lef Forster, did not respond to requests for comment on the allegations in May.
Mansouret recently pulled out of the Socialist Party presidential primaries. Strauss-Kahn had been a front-runner for the party nomination until the New York arrest, and suggestions that the case was floundering have revived talk of his chances in next year's presidential elections.
Mansouret described herself last week as "the woman who embarrasses the Socialist Party."
"I am ... a sort of collateral damage in the DSK affair. I knew for a long time that my political career was sealed with this bomb, but I didn't imagine that this bitter past could be revived so violently," she wrote Friday on the Rue89 website, referring to the alleged attack in New York.
In May, Mansouret said that in 2003, her journalist daughter had interviewed Strauss-Kahn in his office in the National Assembly.
However, after the interview, Banon received a text message from Strauss-Kahn, saying he was not happy with the interview and asking if he could speak with her again, Mansouret said.
After Banon arrived at the address Strauss-Kahn had sent her, he locked the door to the room they were in, took her hand and grabbed her arm, according to Mansouret.
Banon told him to let her go, and the incident ended with the two struggling on the floor, Mansouret said. Banon managed to escape the apartment and locked herself in her car, where she called her mother.
Mansouret said she arrived about an hour and a half later to find her daughter still locked in the car and looking "roughed up." The heel of one shoe was broken, Mansouret recalled.
But Mansouret told her daughter not to file a complaint out of concern that she would become known as Strauss-Kahn's victim.
CNN does not typically identify sexual assault victims, but Mansouret said her daughter gave permission for her name to be disclosed.

"Millenium Temple Is Not Suffering From Crash Crunch" - Paul Adefarasin
Posted on 2:18 PM by dvdsvdsdv
Pastor Paul Adefarasin's June 2011 opening date of his N1.5billion cathedral called Millennium Temple was not feasible and people are alleging that church members stopped donating. The pastor says the delay has nothing to with money. He tells Encomium's Femi Oyewale
"We never said the dedication date for the cathedral would be in June 2011. The project is a huge one with many complexities. It's an auditorium of its time, thus it would take time because many of the technological gadgets for the cathedral are quite sophisticated. We never lacked the resource for the building project. The needs have always been supplied. It is completely paid for and it's debt free. We are looking at the first quarter of next year, 2012.

Posted on 8:21 AM by dvdsvdsdv
Mr. Kolade Arowolo, who was suspected to have killed his wife, Titilayo, a banker with Skye Bank, Marina Branch, on Monday denied stabbing and killing the deceased.
He said contrary to public opinion, the deceased stabbed herself to death. The suspect was said to have killed his 29-year-old wife in cold blood at their No. 8 Akindehinde Street, Isolo, a suburb of Lagos, on Friday, June 24.
He said contrary to public opinion, the deceased stabbed herself to death. The suspect was said to have killed his 29-year-old wife in cold blood at their No. 8 Akindehinde Street, Isolo, a suburb of Lagos, on Friday, June 24.
According to him, he had been having serious issues with the deceased over their marriage before that fateful day that she ended up killing herself, after stabbing him too.
Recalling what transpired between them that day, Arowolo said the deceased was acting under the influence of demons that took over her body and turned her into another person entirely.
He said: “The woman was possessed that day and while we were quarreling, she went into the kitchen and brought out a knife with which she overpowered me and then began to stab me all over my body and head.
“The next thing I saw, she started stabbing herself repeatedly with the knife while telling me that she was tired of the marriage and that since I did not want to let her go, she will kill me and then kill herself.”
According to him, “We have been having issues since the day we got married so much so that I have contemplated divorcing her but because I am a spiritual person and church I pastor, I decided to manage.
“I am now regretting that decision because I should have been bold enough to divorce her and then face the consequences instead of this mess I have found myself.”
He went on to say that he never had plans to marry her as he had a lady he was dating but got lured into her web with the pregnancy she said he was responsible, adding that he only agreed to marry her when the pressure from her family became too much from him to bear.
Urging young men not to allow family pressure to push them into unwanted relationships, he advised them to be bold enough to stop any relationship that was not moving well before it culminates into marriage.
He declared as false, stories that he was probably frustrated because of his unemployment status, stating categorically that never at any time was he ever unemployed even when he left his accounting job.
He stated that even though he was not on any white collar job anymore, he had veered into a business where he deals with exporting cashew nuts to other countries.
Also tackling the issue of the deceased paying the house rent, Arowolo said that when they got married, the first house rent that was paid was solely with his money while admitting that the deceased supported him in the payment of subsequent ones.
When asked why the press was not allowed access to him since the incident, the suspect said that he was critically ill from the knife stabs from the deceased, stressing that he only became conscious last weekend.
Lamenting that stories claimed he ran from police men who met him in the blood soaked car, the suspect said after the deceased killed herself, he jumped down from the storey building and ran to his family members to report himself.
He said he was taken to Ejigbo Police Station where he was later moved to Aswani Police Station before he finally landed at the State Criminal and Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba.
